Slushwave, Mallsoft, Barber Beats (05/05/2025)

Heyo, this is just a simple post going over 3 albums I've been listening to quite a bit these days.

t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 : 夜明けが訪れる

I stumbled across this album 2 weeks ago in the middle of the night, and thank God I did!

Those familar with vaporwave will be familiar with Telepath's works. I remember listening to some of their stuff in those vaporwave mixtapes Jason Sanders would put out! I wasn't really a dedicated fan of any vaporwave artist, but I remember always liking Telepath's stuff a lot.

According to the vid's description, this was released in April 2025 and is Telepath's first classic slushwave-styled album since 2015! That was also the year when I got into synthwave and vaporwave!

I never knew about the term "Slushwave" before until now, but chances are I've probably been listening to it long before. According to Google, it's a music genre combining elements of dream pop, chillwave and synthwave to create very dreamy, airy, hazy sounds. This perfectly describes this album's vibe!

This entire album is amazing, but the track that really stood out to me is the first one, "運命の縁から跳び立つ私を、白い鳳凰の翼が抱きしめる". It translates to "The white wings of the phoenix embrace me as I leap from the edge of destiny." in english (According to Google Translate). Listening to this during the night hits different. A beautiful, somber song.

猫 シ Corp. - Palm Mall Mars Remastered

This is another certified classic album for me. I love Palm Mall Mars!!!!

Originally released in 2018 (remastered ver. in 2020), this album is the sequel to the original Palm Mall, this time set in space in the year 2199! The mall is celebrating its 50th anniversary, providing 50% discounts on luxury items and providing grand offers on newly built Ring Worlds! Very exciting!

This is such a pleasant album to put on and work to. I've drawn and written so many pieces to it! The slow jazz, subtle bustling of busy crowds and echoing Japanese adverts are immersive, and really make you feel like you're in this place! I feel like I'm in some cafe doing work on my laptop or sketchbook while treating myself to a nice hot coffee! There's not a single song I hate on this album. They're all very good, and flow seamlessly into one another. Nothing feels abrupt or out of place.

That album cover is also super iconic to me. It just has this really hopeful, futuristic, peaceful look to it that perfectly complements the music. I want to be that woman in the cover, wandering around the mall, shopping for nice things, going at her own pace.

Oak Grove // あなたの歯を使って自分自身を王冠にします EP

This one was just showing up in my feed a month or so ago, and I thought the cover looked super cool. Reminded me of the jumpscares from Lomando.com. I was expecting the most artistic heavy metal or slam ever, only to find some incredibly soothing barber beats! An incredible bait-and-switch that will be studied for years to come!

The actual songs are incredibly soothing to listen to. It's like the audio form of smoking weed, which is funny for me to say because I don't smoke weed, but if I had to describe what I thought it was like, I would just play one of these songs.

I just can't get over that album cover. I want my ero-guro art to be just as viseral as that cover. It's just so RAW.

So yeah, that's it for now! Hopefully you would have found something nice to listen to!
