Neo-Pangaea Music Recommendations #4 (25/04/2024)

Back to Menu

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another post about my favourite music! It's been a hot minute since my last Freak Shit post.

Today I'll be talking about some of my favourite trance and techno songs! Two of them are from Gouryella, and one is from 2 Unlimited!

"Tenshi" by Gouryella

I have so many fond memories of this song. I first heard it around in 2012 at a local cinema which bought in a DDR machine with this song on it in 2011. I still remember the very first time I picked this song. I came from Secondary school and was still in my uniform I think. My parents were supervising me and my little brother. He would have been 2 - 3 years. I saw the thumbnail for Tenshi in the song select list and thought it sounded interesting, so I picked it.

And then the rest was history.

I can still feel the weirdly euphoric chills I got when I saw this music video in the game for the first time. It's such a COOL video. The technology, the robot arms, the abstract geometric landscapes, the nature imagery, the quotes about man and machine. It's all SO GOOD. It all really made me feel like I was in the future, as cheesy as that sounds, lol. The video compliments the song perfectly. It's all comes together to create a hopeful, optimistic, upbeat vibe.

I just wish that the video was reuploaded in HD! It's stuck in 240p, but oddly enough, in some versions of DDR with this song, the video can be seen in gameplay at a much higher resolution! Like at around maybe 720p? Weird.

For years, Tenshi was, TBH, the only Gouryella song I really listened to. This was until about a week ago, when I decided to dive a bit deeper into Gouryella's catalog of songs and listened to THIS for the first time!

"Ligaya" by Gouryella

Like Tenshi, this song goes HARD. The music video has that interesting early 2000's "future" aesthetic that's looks pretty cool and was pretty popular during that era. The vocals honestly took some time for me to get accustomed to. The singer is good, and the lyrics are fine, but I thought that somehow, the vocals didn't completely fit into the ethereal vibe of the instrumental. However, they eventually grew on me quickly, and I noticed this when I started singing the lyrics in my head whenever I listened to the intrumental only version. The song is amazing, and sounds beautiful without AND with the vocals.

But, unfortunately, like Tenshi, the video is stuck in 240p! I wish there were HD versions of these Gouryella videos, but I suppose the 240p adds a sort of charm to them?

But anyways, here's the last song I want to share.

"No Limit" by 2 UNLIMITED

I found out about this song from another video called "120 Subgenres in EDM (W/ Examples)" by Julian P-Harri, and I'm so glad I did!

This song is just so fun, and the music video with its pinball aesthetic fits its vibes perfectly! The two singers, Ray Slijngaard and Anita Doth, look so good in their outfits too, especially Anita! She's so pretty, and it's fun to watch her dance. Ray is also very fun to watch, and his rap vocals are a great addition to an already great song.

And, unlike the previous two songs, this video isn't stuck in 240p! Resolutions up to 720p are available here. This video on 2 Unlimited's official YT channel (this one linked here) was uploaded in 2014, when higher resolutions were being made available, so that's why. The Gouryella videos on Ferry Corsten's official channel were posted in 2008.

So that's it for this music post! If you've made it far, then thank you for sticking around! Bye for now!
