Neo-Pangaea Music Reccommendations #2 (27/01/2024)

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another post about my favourite music!

Today I'll be talking about three of my favourite Tame Impala songs and why I like them!

The Less I Know, The Better

This song was my introduction to Tame Impala! A friend of mine showed the music video to me back in late 2019, when we first started university. I was instantly hooked. The instrumental was super groovy and catchy. It was stuck in my head for days after I first listened to it. And his voice! It was such an interesting mix between a masculine and a feminine voice. As someone who loved to depict masculine men doing feminine things, I was obsessed. Plus the song, while having an upbeat tone to it, had a noticeable sad and bitter vibe to it too. Made sense, considering was about a guy feeling super bitter about seeing his crush with another man.

For the new few years, that was (embrassingly) the only Tame Impala song I listened to. That was until just recently, when I heard the next two songs.

Borderline (Single Version)

Oh. My. God. This song is SEXY. It's so sensual and vulnerable. The feminine aspect of his voice has been amplified by a thousand here, and it's just so good! I headcanon the Yellow Runner from Nitrome's Rush as having a voice like this. I think it's fitting, as I personally like to depict him as a femboy. That "Ahhhhhh" at the being is so ethereal and sensual. And the little subtle voice cracks make this version of the song feel so raw, honest and "down-to-earth". I listened to the album version of this song first and liked it a lot, but nowadays, I find myself gravitating towards this version more. Both are great in their own right, but I love the rawness of this version. Both songs also remind me of the 2000's a lot. It just sounds like sometime I would have heard playing on MTV or Cartoon Network early in the morning before I went to school.

Let It Happen

This song is a journey. That's the best way to describe it, I think. I don't exactly know how to fully describe the feeling I get listening to it, but I will say that it's very intimate and emotional, especially with the beginning section after it opens. Then way it transitions from that sort of fake "music looping on broken cassette" section back into the song is awesome! It catches you off guard and hits you with that groovy bassline and voice, which is as sensual and vulnerable as ever, and I love it as usual. It sucks to see Tiktok kids only hyping up the last 2 - 3 minutes as being the "best part" of the song while completely ignoring the rest of it. The entire song is the "best part"!

So that's it for this entry of my music reccommedations series! There are other sweet Tame Impala songs that I would love to share, but I'll share them some other time! Bye for now!
