So a couple of days ago, I was bored and looking around for something to watch on Disney +, when I suddenly stumbled across their collection of movies from the Alien series! It seemed to include everything movie in the series except Rhombus (for now). I then dedicated that night to watching the first Alien movie for the first time!
The movie's premise is simple: a crew from a commercial spaceship, Nostromo, suddenly intercept a supposed distress call and are tasked with investigating its source, a seemingly abandoned planet. Shit hits the fan from there.
The movie's atmosphere is incredible! It's lonely and empty, but it always has that vibe that something's not right. That something or someone is always watching you. The set designs and practical effects are so good too. The intricate designs and patterns on the furniture around the ship are so interesting and classy looking, but then you got some of those physical interfaces with the big chunky buttons when they're piloting the ship. Everything looks so cool!
The costume design for the xenomorph itself is phenominal. It's freaky (scary) and freaky (hot)! The slobber coming from the little tounge guy it so realistic and grimy and gross! And the xenomorph's movements are so unsettling and uncanny! That facehugger is super creepy too! The effects during that one scene when its skin was burned was impressive! That acid seemed real! Pretty good stuff. And how can I now mention the infamous chest birth scene? I was very happy to see it here for the first time in the actual movie. What a fucked up scene. Amazing! There's some great body horror in this movie.
Ripley is such a cool character and incredible "final girl". The final scene with her last standoff against the xenomorph is so good. I don't wanna go into too much detail, but all I wanna say is that she's peak final girl. Awesome character. Also, I love her hair!
Now, I was watching this on Disney +, so there is the possibility that some of this movie was censored. But regardless, it was still a fun and gory time! Perhaps I'll look up the movie online for a director's cut or something.
Anyways, yeah. Alien was pretty good. Glad I saw it. Will be looking at Aliens next. I think it's the sequel to this one.
Also, look at this.
